Expansion Valve
The expansion valve represents the point of separation between the high pressure and low pressure sections in the refrigerant circuit and is installed before the evaporator. The liquid refrigerant is injected into the evaporator through the expansion valve. The refrigerant expands, evaporates and thus releases evaporation cooling. In order to achieve optimum cooling capacity in the evaporator, the refrigerant flow is controlled by the expansion valve.

Evaporator / Cooling Coil
The evaporator is inside the vehicle and is used for heat exchange between the air surrounding it and the refrigerant in the air conditioning system. The refrigerant entering the evaporator under high pressure expands, i.e. it converts from a liquid to a gaseous state, and thus “evaporates” in the evaporator. The evaporation cooling produced by this process is discharged to the environment via the large surface of the evaporator and routed to the inside of the vehicle through the blower air flow.

The blower fan is used for ventilating the vehicle passenger compartment. It ensures a clear view and pleasant climate inside the vehicle, which are pre-requisites for safety and driving comfort. Fan failure leads to an uncomfortable climate inside the vehicle, impairing the driver’s concentration. This is a significant reduction in safety. In addition, the lack of ventilation can lead to the windscreen fogging. The limited view caused by a fogged windscreen is another major safety risk.

Receiver Drier
The filter elements in the air conditioning system are either called filter-dryers or accumulators depending on the type of system used. The task of the filter-dryer is to remove impurities from the refrigerant and dehumidify it. The liquid refrigerant enters the filter-dryer, flows through a hygroscopic filter and emerges from the filter-dryer again in liquid form. The upper part of a filter-dryer simultaneously serves as a compensation chamber, the lower part as a refrigerant store in order to compensate fluctuations in pressure in the system.
